Annual Competitions include - Slide, Print and Digital Photographer of the Year, Salon Worker of the Year and Trophy Night.
Slide and Print Photographer of the Year
These competitions encourage members to accumulate as many points as possible.
The points are
- Those awarded at Club Night judging.
- Points allocated for Set Subject (1st=three pts; 2nd=two pts; 3rd=one pt)
- One point for winning Image of the Night in each section - Slide, Print and E-Photography.
The committee may also decide to include points from other club competitions (e.g. a photo rally) held during the year.
Salon Worker of the Year
This competition encourages you to gain as many salon acceptances as possible,
The points are
- One point for an acceptance at a National Salon
- Two points for an acceptance at an International Salon
- A further point for obtaining a Certificate of Merit, or an Honorable Mention, and an
- Additional point for being awarded a medal.
After a photograph has been accepted at three salons, it cannot be used to earn further acceptance points.
The competition runs from January each year.
Trophy Night
Trophy Night is an annual event, the specific date of which is decided by the committee, usually held in February.
- A maximum of nine slides or prints can be entered, with at most three in any one category
- The categories are the standard ones used for Club Night.
- In addition there is a Beginners Nature and a Beginners Pictorial category open to one and two star workers.
- Members may enter up to six prints. There will be a single open pictorial category, with colour and monochrome prints combined.
- Images entered into the Trophy Night Event cannot have been entered on a previous trophy night.
- A trophy is awarded to the winner of each category.
Criteria for Advancement
There are three judges at every club night meeting. Each judge marks an image out of 5 points.
- 5 Points - Certificate of Merit (COM) = The image exceeds the criteria for the star rating
- 4 Points - Gold Award = The image meets the criteria for the star rating
- 3 Points - Silver Award = The image does not meet the criteria for the star rating
- 4 Points - Bronze Award = The image is below the required standard, or has some serious flaws
- 0 Points - No Award = Ths is only given if an image has some very serious faults - e.g. the image is displayed in the wrong category, or if manipulation has been applied to a nature image, or if text has been applied.
The three judges marks are then added together and the author will be given an award as tabled below.

The author's name is not announced fro Bronze and No Awards - this is to avoid embarrasment.
The author's name is not announced until the end of the evening for Gold and COM,s as these images are entered into the "Images of Evening" competitions.
If one of the judges should score a 2 and another a 5, the scribe should announce a discrepency and ask the judges to confer and re-judge. This does not mean that any of the judges are wrong, but it can happen that one of the judges may, or may not, have seen something of importance.
To advance from:
- 1 to 2 Star: you need 4 gold's and 20 points.
- 2 to 3 Star: you need 10 gold awards or 7 gold awards - 3 being good gold or certificates of merit awards and 50 points. This excludes the awards and points acquired in the 1 star rating.
- 3 to 4 Star: you need 15 gold awards, with one gold in 4 of the categories listed, and 5 salon acceptances from 3 slides / prints; or 25 gold awards, with two gold's in 4 of the categories listed.
- 4 to 5 Star: you need 25 gold's, with two gold's in 5 of the categories listed; and 10 salon acceptances from 5 slides / prints.
- 5 to 5 Star Honours; you need 50 gold awards and not more than 15 in any one of the categories listed, you need 200 club points plus 60 salon points with no time limit in which to obtain them.
